The global COVID-19 pandemic is having far reaching effects in Toronto, including major impacts to what have been booming real estate and building industries. Many jobs and most events are currently suspended, postponed, or affected in other ways, though UrbanToronto is still operating at full strength with our team working remotely. As a means to keep the public in the loop about the shutdowns, we'll be sharing information and status updates from around the industry on a regular basis.

City of Toronto expands ActiveTO major road closures this weekend
Mayor John Tory announced today that the City of Toronto will expand its ActiveTO major road closures footprint this weekend to provide residents with more space to physically distance while outdoors and getting exercise, while helping stop the spread of COVID-19.
City of Toronto strongly recommends face coverings or non-medical masks be worn when physical distancing cannot be maintained
To help stop the spread of COVID-19, today Toronto Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa and Mayor John Tory strongly recommended that the public wear a face mask or face covering to protect others when in settings where physical distancing cannot be maintained.

Mississauga businesses are shifting their operations and contributing to the fight against COVID-19.
City of Mississauga COVID-19 Response Continues: Phased Approach to Re-opening For Community Safety
Council reviewed information from City staff, Peel Public Health and public health agencies regarding Mississauga’s readiness for re-opening and a recommended approach in light of recent changes announced by the Government of Ontario regarding the re-opening of outdoor amenities on May 19th.

The City of Brampton launched its “Support Local” campaign to encourage residents to Shop, Eat, Gift and Support Local. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on local businesses and they require support from the Brampton community now more than ever.
Vaughan Community Centre improvements underway
While Vaughan facilities remain closed to the public, the City of Vaughan is using this opportunity to complete necessary improvements to its community centres. These improvements will be completed in time for when community centres reopen to the public.

Due to an increase in demand resulting from the progressive deconfinement implemented by public health authorities in Québec and Ontario, VIA Rail Canada announces service changes effective June 3, which will be in place until further notice.
