Motorists can expect road work along Newmarket’s Davis Drive in the next few months.

The latest project, launched May 19, includes road improvements eastward from Yonge Street to Highway 404, according to the Region of York.

Although motorists using the major east-west artery through Newmarket can expect intermittent flow interruptions, the roadway is expected to remain open to traffic and maintain access to businesses and residents.

Temporary lane restrictions will be in place from Monday to Saturday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Some night work is anticipated.

The project includes microsurfacing the road surface, curb repair and repairing catch basins to improve water flow off the roadway.

A rapid transit line along Davis Drive was completed in 2015.

“As per industry best practices, preservation treatments are completed every five to seven years to extend the life of the road before needing major construction or replacement,” said a news release from the Region of York.

“York Region is taking the opportunity to complete these road improvements at this time due to the reduced volume of traffic, which will reduce traffic disruptions for motorists.”

Active work is to occur in sections of no more than 500 metres per day with the active work area moving throughout the project.
