$55K donation to help vulnerable York Region residents during pandemic

The Regional Municipality of York received the funds from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and Canadian Medical Association Foundation for homelessness, mental health and community food programs

The Regional Municipality of York has graciously received a generous donation of $55,000 from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Canadian Medical Association Foundation to help support York Region’s most vulnerable populations. 

“During our uncertain times, it’s vital we all work together to respond to the COVID-19 global pandemic,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “This donation assists our efforts to protect the overall safety and well-being of everyone within our communities.”

The COVID-19 Community Response Fund for Vulnerable Populations helps areas nationwide better reach, protect and assist the most vulnerable. This includes those experiencing homelessness or dealing with mental health and substance use challenges. Funding is applied to items such as: 

On May 11, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities announced a $10 million funding partnership with the Canadian Medical Association Foundation to support vulnerable populations struggling with the impacts of COVID-19. York Region is one of some 70 recipients across the country to receive this funding.

“Funding will complement the support provided through federal homelessness programs,” added Chairman Emmerson. “York Region continues to advocate to senior levels of government for increased support for our residents in most need.”
