The “Mayor’s Reopening and Recovery Working Group,” which is conducting the community stakeholder and resident feedback initiative, was launched on April 22 and is headed by Wards 3 and 4 Coun. Martin Medeiros.

“Work is well underway on establishing a safe, measured plan for the City’s gradual reopening and recovery. We’re relying on the community’s continued support and feedback as we move forward in this process. I am looking forward to having meaningful discussions with City stakeholders that will help shape our plans and ensure a comprehensive approach,” said Medeiros in a May 12 release.

The working group, with guidance from the Brampton Emergency Management Office, has already begun meeting with community groups beginning with sports organizations on May 13.

Residents looking to provide feedback on the city’s eventual reopening strategy can do so by filling out an online reopening survey on the city website at www.brampton.ca or by contacting the city via email at covid19reopencity@brampton.ca.

“The working group will focus on reopening City facilities in a safe and measured way. The group will advise on processes to guide the specialized COVID-19 task forces during the phased return so that residents, businesses and employees continue to receive the support they need,” added the city’s release.

While the community engagement initiative is seeking resident feedback about the eventual reopening, Medeiros emphasized in April that any decisions about when city facilities and services shut down due to COVID-19 would be governed by advice from public health authorities.

“I’d like to reiterate there are no timelines. We will follow strictly the guidelines of public health,” he said. “Everything that we do will be to ensure public safety and that the residents of Brampton’s public health (are) protected.”
