1 arrest, Fire Marshal investigating after suspicious Vaughan house fire

Firefighters douse Sassafras Circle blaze; damages at least $500K

Multiple sources are investigating a suspicious fire that broke out May 12 at a Vaughan residence.

One person is under arrest in connection with the blaze to which Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service was called around 7:45 p.m.

A female occupant of the home, located at 57 Sassafras Circle, was arrested at the scene. York Regional Police have not disclosed the charges against the woman.

The remaining residents at the address in the Langstaff Road and Hwy. 7 area were accounted for and uninjured.

Damage to the home is estimated to be at least $500,000 to $750,000 from the rapidly moving fire which spread to multiple rooms on the second floor.

The Ontario Fire Marshal, York police and Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service are all conducting investigations.
