An employee at the Oshawa Costco has COVID-19.

The Durham Region Health Department says they were told about the case May 6, but the information wasn’t reported until the weekend.

Spokesperson Glendene Collins couldn’t confirm when the employee last worked.

She says the staff member is now in two-week isolation, but it’s not clear when that 14-day period began.

Collins says the store was closed for a deep cleaning and disinfecting, but again it’s not clear when that happened.

No other employees have been impacted.

Durham Radio News reached out to Costco May 7, but have yet to receive a comment.

In York Region, where seven employees at the Woodbridge Costco contracted COVID-19, the company didn’t immediately comment to media.

Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua broke the news with information from the York Region Health Department.
