One person has died due to coronavirus at the Saputo dairy products facility in Vaughan.

York Region Public Health said Friday 23 other people are also infected with COVID-19.

The public health agency said they were first notified of the issue on April 29 and they are tracing close contacts of the confirmed cases.

“Six of the confirmed cases, including the deceased case, are York Region residents,” York region health said in a news release Friday.

The release added there’s no risk to the general public.

The health department said the facility located at 101 Royal Group Crescent is not open to the public and “does not produce food at this location.”

The facility is a Canadian Food and Inspection Agency designated facility, however.

York health said Saputo has put in place several precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.

“All COVID-19 prevention precautions are in place including personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff, staff screening, hand sanitizer, physical distancing throughout the warehouse, reduced staff complement, updated sick policy, and enhanced cleaning of high touch surfaces,” York health said
