Currently, there are five assessment centres in the region of Peel --three in Mississauga, one in Brampton and another in Caledon.

However, that number could grow with another drive-through site being explored for Mississauga and a second centre in Brampton, with the South Fletcher's Sportsplex community centre named as a possible location.

“I know that discussions continue around a second assessment centre in Brampton. I also know that Trillium Health Partners have opened a third and are looking at opening a fourth as well,” said Peel Region interim chief medical officer of health, Dr. Lawrence Loh in an interview.

“It is certainly something that is a critical part of our response in terms of testing and assessment to make sure we are able to identify cases in our community, and also disrupt the transmission by investigating their contacts once that information comes to light,” he added.

Both Loh and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown confirmed the South Fletcher's site is among the Brampton sites being considered. Trillium Health Partners said it is planning a second drive-thru centre at Mississauga Hospital.

Currently, there are walk-in and drive-thru COVID-19 screening and assessment centres located at Credit Valley Hospital (2200 Eglinton Ave. West) and a walk-in at Mississauga Hospital (100 Queensway West).

“We are planning to open a fourth one. It would be a drive-thru at Mississauga Hospital,” Trillium Health Partners' media relations department told the Brampton Guardian.

The only assessment centre in Brampton is located the Peel Memorial Urgent Care centre site (20 Lynch St.), and the assessment centre in Caledon is housed at the Headwaters Health Care Centre (100 Rolling Hills Dr. in Orangeville).
