East Gwillimbury is cancelling all town event and programs until June 30. The announcement came as part of the town's continued effort to protect the community and stop the spread of COVID-19. All town facilities, including the civic centre, community centres, libraries and recreational spaces will remain closed until further notice. All spring programs, facility permits, and town events are cancelled until June 30, 2020, and refunds will be issued to all registered participants.

"It is critical that we all continue to be diligent and remain at home and practise physical distancing. We must continue to follow these guidelines to get through the crisis together as a community," Mayor Virginia Hackson said. “It is what we do today, that will ultimately define what happens tomorrow.

"This decision has not been made lightly and has been put in place to provide a consistent and clear message to residents that the town is following public health agency guidelines during this situation. Although, there is not a definitive date for reopening, the town will work closely with partners and follow the direction of federal and provincial governments, as well as York Region Public Health to ensure the health and safety of our community."

The town will continue to provide essential services to residents throughout the closures, including customer service, emergency services, waste collection, water and wastewater, roads maintenance, and more.
