Mackenzie Health will be closing its Urgent Care Centre in Vaughan.

Effective April 5 at 10 p.m., the Urgent Care Centre, located at 9401 Jane St., will be temporarily closed.

Hospital staff working at the urgent care clinic will be redirected to Mackenzie Health Hospital in Richmond Hill.

“Temporarily closing the UCC is one of the ways we’re reducing non-emergency clinical activity to ensure we have the resources we need to care for the expected surge in patients affected by COVID-19 in the days and weeks ahead,” reads a statement sent by the hospital.

In recent weeks, patient volumes at centre have been low and hospital management decided to redeploy staff to where their skills could be best used: caring for hospital patients.

Mackenzie Health’s emergency department remains open for patients requiring emergency care.

Residents who don’t have life-threatening injuries or illnesses are encouraged to contact their family doctor or Telehealth Ontario to seek medical advice.

The Urgent Care Centre will reopen once hospital operations return to normal.

For medical advice, call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.
