Vaughan’s city council has to decide who is going to be the next acting city manager on April 15.
This comes after the council decided at a special, closed session between the committee of the whole on Feb. 13 that the acting city manager be “appointed on a 2-month rotation, based on the tenure of employment of the organization, from the deputy city managers (DCMs),” the city stated on its website.
So far, Mary Reali was placed into the acting city manager position for the period from Feb. 15 until April 14.
“As such, council’s direction on the acting city manager position commencing April 15, 2020 is required,” the city said.
Reali, the deputy city manager of community services, assumed the position after Tim Simmonds served his last day as Vaughan's top bureaucrat on Friday Feb. 14. Simmonds filled in as interim city manager last year.
“Tim Simmonds has decided to move on from the City of Vaughan,” the city said in an email to Yorkregion.com dating back to February when Simmonds left. “The city extends sincere gratitude to Tim for his service to the city and wishes him the very best in his future.”
The departure concluded a long chapter for Simmonds, who started working for Vaughan in 2009.
