Fans of mystery enjoyed an evening with Maureen Jennings, the famed author of the Detective Murdoch Mysteries, at the Pierre Berton Resource Library recently. Maureen delivered an inspirational talk recounting her experiences and years of research, elaborated on her writing process and her passion for Toronto while also meeting with fans face-to-face for book signings. Participants also engaged in activity stations throughout the library, including demonstrations from a forensic expert, exploring mysterious places in virtual reality, taking photos at the green screen, and sampling new titles at the Book Tasting table. Born in England, Maureen emigrated to Canada as a teenager and the first Detective Murdoch mystery was published in 1997. In 2003, Shaftesbury Films adapted three of the novels into movies of the week, and four years later, the Murdoch Mysteries TV series was created and its now shown around the world! This was truly a gem of an evening for all fans of Maureen Jennings and the mystery genre.
