Man found dead inside burning home in Woodbridge, York police say

A man was found dead in a burning house in Woodbridge early Thursday, York Regional Police Sgt. Andy Pattenden said.

Just after 1 a.m., police went to a home at 152 Retreat Boulevard in the area of Weston Road and Major Mackenzie Drive and found smoke coming from the house.

Vaughan firefighters went inside and found a man dead, Pattenden said.

Investigators with 4 District criminal investigations bureau are asking for witnesses who saw anything "suspicious" to come forward.

Officials with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office are also on scene looking for the cause of the fire.

Pattenden would not comment on published reports that the man had been involved in a domestic assault before being discovered dead in the fire.
