Essential workers will have two more options for childcare during the COVID-19 crisis.

On Monday, the city announced the province’s approval of additional licenced childcare facilities -- one at Bathurst and Front St. opening on Monday, and a second at 1125 Danforth Ave., west of Greenwood, will open later this week.

The two new centres, which now bring the total of approved daycares to six, were opened in areas of largest demand, the city said.

The city re-opened four daycares on March 31 to address the needs of city essential workers requiring childcare to do their jobs.

In March, daycares were among the first services ordered closed by the province in an attempt to slow the coronavirus spread in Ontario.

Shortly thereafter, the province allowed certain centres to re-open specifically for children of essential workers and front-line city, emergency and medical staff.
