East Gwillimbury closes town facilities due to COVID-19 until April 6

The town of East Gwillimbury has closed its facilities due to the Coronavirus. The town of East Gwillimbury Civic Centre and Annex will be temporarily closed to the public from March 16 until April 6, 2020.
March break, recreational and drop-in programs and all facility permits are cancelled.
As a result of the cancellation the following facilities will be closed to the public at least until April 6: East Gwillimbury Civic Centre, East Gwillimbury Sports Complex, Holland Landing Community Centre and library, Ross Family Complex and library, Mount Albert Community Centre, Mount Albert Lions Hall, River Drive Park Community Centre, North Union Community Centre and Harvest Hills Activity Centre.
The Civic Centre and Annex location will only remain open for staff operations. The town recommends that residents utilize online banking to make payments for water or tax bills or the town drop box located outside of the civic centre. The town is experiencing a higher-than-normal call volume, as such, if you have any questions, residents are recommending to email the town at Customerservice@eastgwillimbury.ca, emails will be responded to in priority sequence.
“Right now, we are in uncharted territory. I would like to remind residents to take care of yourselves, families, and neighbours,” Mayor Virginia Hackson said. “If you can take away one message, it is important to remember that regular handwashing, proper cough and sneeze etiquette and social distancing are your best defence against spreading all illnesses, including COVID-19.
Hackson said the health and safety of residents and employees are the town’s top priority. The proactive measures were taken to help mitigate risks and help to eliminate potential community spread of COVID-19. “The town is working with the Northern Six municipalities to implement consistent approaches where possible. The town has also been working with York Region, provincial, and national health agencies to monitor the rapidly changing response to COVID-19,” she said.
