York Region police forces announced changes to public access to their facilities to help reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus.
Here is what you need to know:
York Regional Police
YRP is closing all police facilities to members of the public indefinitely.
In case of an emergency, police ask you call 911.
For non-emergencies, you can call 1-866-876-5423 toll-free, or complete a report online at yrp.ca/reportit.
Anyone contacting police for assistance will be asked additional screening questions to limit the potential for spreading illness.
There will not be changes to police response in an emergency.
Applications for police record checks can be submitted online at yrp.ca/onlinechecks.
However, police record checks will not be processed or issued until police facilities reopen. Applicants will be contacted with instructions to pick up their completed police record check once services resume.
Ontario Provincial Police
OPP is restricting access to facilities, including detachments, across Ontario until further notice.
Their facilities will remain open during regular operating hours, with enhanced screening to ensure the health and safety of the public. Detachment phone numbers are available at opp.ca/detachments.
OPP is limiting the processing of routine criminal record checks and vulnerable sector checks. These checks will only be conducted if deemed to be necessary, or for emergency circumstances. Anyone who is in need of this service is asked to contact their local detachment ahead of time.
In addition, the OPP has set up detachment-specific email addresses to deal with non-emergency services and inquires. These email address are now available at opp.ca/reporting.
