Newmarket Mayor John Taylor is feeling well again after testing negative for the coronavirus.

“I have been fully cleared by York Region Public Health and am not required to self-isolate anymore,” Taylor said in a statement.

Taylor, 54, was tested for the coronavirus following a bout of illness.

Public health said anyone who came into contact with Taylor has no reason to be concerned, the statement said.

“I am feeling 100 per cent healthy again and look forward to getting back to work. My family is relieved and they are all healthy and well,” Taylor said.

Taylor said he will now be turning his attention to the role that Newmarket and York Region has in supporting people through the coronavirus outbreak.

“Please remember that the risk of contracting COVID-19 remains low at this point but we must remain vigilant in our efforts to contain it,” he said.

Taylor is asking people to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use sanitizer as well as practicing social distancing. He is encouraging people to follow guideline provided by York Region, the province and the federal government.

“I know our community will stay strong, be vigilant, and support those who are vulnerable,” Taylor said.
