Case closed: What’s cancelled at municipalities in York Region in light of COVID-19

Every York Region municipality has closed and cancelled events and facilities

Municipalities across York Region are cancelling events and closing doors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve compiled a list for you.

Aurora

All town recreation centres and arenas will be closed until April 6 including:

All programs, permits and camps scheduled during this time, including March break camps, will be refunded.

Easterpalooza on April 11 is also cancelled.

Details about refunds for programs, permits, camps and events will be communicated early next week.

East Gwillimbury

The following locations are closed until April 6:

All March break, recreational and drop-in programs and all facility permits are cancelled.

Georgina

The following locations are closed until April 5 (inclusive):

All registered programs and camps for March break are cancelled. Refunds will be process as soon as possible.

All third-party facility rentals are cancelled until April 5 (inclusive).

The Link Winter Market has been cancelled until December but the Link will remain open with controlled public access.

The Georgina Animal Shelter is closed to the public but staff will be on site to care for the animals.

King

King Township is closing all recreation, library and cultural facilities to the public until April 6.

The municipal centre on King Road will also be closed to the public. Citizens are still able to do business with King via www.king.ca, by phone at 905-833-5321 or email at serviceking@king.ca.

Markham

The following locations are closed until April 5:

All programs and drop-ins, including March break camps, will be suspended until April 5 and refunds will be issued.

The Markham Civic Centre will remain open to the public during regular operating hours but residents are encouraged to access services online at www.markham.ca/OnlineServices or through the contact centre at 905-477-5530 or customerservice@markham.ca.

City-produced events have been cancelled for March and will be rescheduled.

The following public meetings have been cancelled for March:

Newmarket

The following locations will be closed through to April 5:

The cancellations also impact outside organizations with bookings at town facilities.

Services at the municipal offices, the Robert N. Shelton Operations Centre and Central York Fire Services will stay open.

Richmond Hill

The city is postponing all city-run events until after April
The Access Richmond Hill Contact Centre is available to respond to general inquiries by email at access@richmondhill.ca or by phone at 905-771-8800. In-person services will not be available until April 6.

Vaughan

All community centres and library branches will be closed until April 6, including community centre permits/rentals, recreational and library programming, swimming pools, arenas and fitness facilities as well as the City Playhouse Theatre.

All city and library March break camps and daycare programming will be cancelled.

The Joint Operations Centre is closed to the public effective March 16 until further notice. All other city facilities, including city hall, will remain open with potential impacts to service levels.

The following events are cancelled:

Whitchurch-Stouffville

Whitchurch-Stouffville locations closed until April 14:

The closure affects all town services, programs and events that were to be held at those facilities including March break camps and programs.

Town hall will be closed to the public but services online and via telephone will remain.

Bradford West Gwillimbury

The following locations are closed until April 6:

The buildings will be closed to the public and all recreational programs, permits and camps, including March break programming, scheduled during this period are cancelled and all fees will be refunded.

All town advisory committee meetings are cancelled through the end of April.
