Plastic water bottles? You won’t be seeing those at Whitchurch-Stouffville council chambers.
The town has launched a #H202Go Program to encourage a town-wide reduction of single-use plastics. The campaign is designed to increase public awareness about the town’s water-bottle filling stations.
“Reducing or eliminating the use of single-use plastics is a desired state for any community” says Mayor Iain Lovatt “I’m grateful staff has prepared this initiative to not only do our part for the environment, but also promote Stouffville’s exceptional drinking water.”
The town has already taken steps to remove bottled water from meetings in town facilities and installed seven water bottle-refilling stations at Town Hall, 6240 Main St., Whitchurch-Stouffville Leisure Centre, Operations Centre, SoccerCity, Stouffville Arena, Clippers Complex. In the coming months both the Museum and ‘19 on the Park’ will have hydration stations.
In support of the program, there will also be reusable water bottles, at many facilities and the municipal offices, available for purchase at $5 per bottle.
The program will have further exposure on March 22 which is “World Water Day” -- an annual, recognized international event that supports the availability of clean drinking water for all.
The town asks to tag photos of you using the hydration stations using the hashtag #H202Go.
