Environment Canada has issued a warning for a significant amount of snow (15-25 cm) that is expected to fall on Wednesday, Feb. 26 to Thursday, Feb. 27.

With the forecasted inclement weather, the Town of Newmarket reminds residents to avoid unnecessary travel. If you are required to travel, please slow down, drive according to weather conditions and take extra caution when travelling on sidewalks and trails.

Staff will continue to monitor weather conditions and perform salting/clearing operations on sidewalks, trails and Newmarket roads as required. Newmarket is responsible for plowing and salting local Town of Newmarket roads. Regional roads such as Mulock Drive, Davis Drive, Bayview Avenue, Leslie Street, Yonge Street and Bathurst Street are maintained by York Region.

Residents are also urged to remember to keep the following tips in mind:

Winter parking restrictions are in effect until April 15, 2020. Please avoid parking on the street as it interferes with winter operations (snow clearing/salting).

Clear fire hydrants adjacent to private property where possible so that hydrants can be easily located and hoses can be hooked up in the event of an emergency (one metre around the hydrant is recommended).

Ensure appliance vents are not blocked by snow or ice to prevent carbon monoxide build-up.

If you are experiencing power outages, contact Newmarket Hydro at 905-895-2309, view their power outage map for more information or check their Twitter account @NTPowerNews.

Have emergency supplies -- including water, non-perishable foods, flashlights and a first-aid kit -- that will last for 72 hours. View the Central York Fire Services website for a full list of items to include in an emergency kit.

Place waste and recycling items at the curb and not on the road or on top of snow banks.
