In a historic move, all of Ontario’s four teachers’ unions are heading for a strike, shutting schools provincewide on Friday, Feb. 21 if no progress is made at the central negotiation table.
So here are some ideas for day camps provided at some municipalities in York Region.
1 - Vaughan offers day camps for six to 12 years old
Vaughan Day Camps will offer a fun, supervised full-day camp option for families impacted by the school closure. Activities will include active sports, games, arts and crafts and special themes. Outdoor activities may occur depending on the weather. Special activities will also be planned based on community centre-specific amenities and availability.
Day camps are designed for children aged 6 to 12 years old and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The City of Vaughan also urges parents to check back regularly, as information is subject to change during pending school closures.
The locations will be Maple Community Centre, Maple Community Centre (special needs), North Thornhill Community Centre and Vellore Village Community Centre.
2 - Whitchurch-Stouffville’s day programs
The Town will be running day programs for children aged 6 to 12 years old during the school closures. Programs will take place at the Leisure Centre, for residents. If space allows, non-residents will be able to register 24 hours prior to the specific program date.
