Improving safety and accessibility are behind current renovations at the GO train station in Newmarket.
Just the facts:
- Location: both north and southbound platforms at the Newmarket GO Station, 465 Davis Dr.
- The upgrades are part of the early works for the GO train expansion project that will see an increase in frequency and number of trains across the rail network
- The project is divided into two phases. Phase one will see the addition of digital signs to the platform followed by full-length tactile tile
- Construction started in November and the first phase is expected to be completed this month. The second phase is set to start in the spring and is expected to be completed in the summer.
- Crews are currently working to trench the area for the conduit and cabling required to power the digital monitors, which will be placed at the north and south ends of the platforms as well as one in the middle of the waiting area
- Full-length tactile tiles will be added to the north and south side of the platform. Construction for the tactile tiles is slated to start in the spring.
