Community agencies in Newmarket and Aurora can spruce up their facilities thanks to more than $300,000 in grants from the provincial government, Newmarket-Aurora MPP Christine Elliott announced.
Elliott was joined by associate Children and Women’s Issues Minister Jill Dunlop at Kevin’s Place Youth Shelter in Newmarket on Feb. 7.
Of the more than $334,000 in grants for repairs and renovations, the shelter will receive $134,400, while Community Living Newmarket Aurora District will receive $6,000 and Aurora’s Yellow Brick House women’s shelter will receive $194,000.
“Helping our community partners maintain and upgrade their buildings is an important part of keeping the people of Newmarket safe,” Elliott said in a statement.
“This investment will ensure that our community’s youth have access to quality emergency housing services when they need it most.”
The investments come through the province’s annual Partner Facility Renewal program, which sees $11.5 million going to 350 projects at 124 community agencies across Ontario supporting people with developmental disabilities, women and children experiencing domestic violence, Indigenous people and children with mental health needs.
“These repairs and improvements are crucial to ensuring safe conditions for dedicated frontline staff and the communities that they serve,” Dunlop said.
“Investing in these necessary repairs means that these agencies and shelters can focus on what they do best.”
