Stephen Lecce, MPP for King-Vaughan, announced Feb. 10 that King Township would get a grant of more than $608,000 from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund for 2020.

"King will use these funds to reline and rehabilitate bridges and culverts," King Mayor Steve Pellegrini said.

Last year, the township received $725,000 from the fund and used that money to replace aging culverts and support ongoing streetscaping.

King Township passed its budget at the end of January and this funding was part of that discussion, Pellegrini said.

"There are a number of things that make up the revenue side," he said. "People think it’s all taxpayer dollars, but it’s development charges; it’s also grants."

The fund was launched in 2014 and gives money to small, rural and northern communities to help build and repair critical infrastructure.

Through the fund, the provincial government will distribute about $200 million to 424 communities across Ontario in 2020.
