York Region District School Board is launching Tune In YRDSB, the first podcast of its kind in Ontario.

The podcast will cover a variety of topics on education in York Region that matter to families.

The pilot features Associate Director of Education Clayton La Touche and Coordinating Superintendent of Education --Indigenous Education and Equity Cecil Roach speaking about Black History Month.

The first several episodes focus on YRDSB’s celebration of Black History Month. Throughout February, YRDSB is Celebrating Black Excellence. In addition to the podcast conversations, social cards, written features, videos and a poster contest will highlight inspiring Black individuals and community groups.

“We have some amazing and inspiring individuals in our community, and we are excited to be able to share conversations with some of these individuals,” said Director of Education Louise Sirisko. “The podcast will feature important and topical information about our Board and our education system.”

“It’s important that we focus on the kind of achievement that Black people are accomplishing today right here in York Region, and that’s what the focus on Black excellence will do. I’m looking forward to February and further podcast episodes to hear about some of those individuals,” said Cecil Roach, Coordinating Superintendent of Education --Indigenous Education and Equity.

There will be weekly episodes for the month of February focused on Black excellence, and bi-weekly episodes from March onward. Listeners can download or subscribe to the podcast on Spotify and Anchor FM, and it will be available on all major streaming platforms in the near future.
