Significant storm warning in effect for York Region this coming Saturday

Environment Canada has issued a warning for a significant storm expected to reach York Region Saturday, Jan. 10.

“A low pressure system will impact southern Ontario this weekend,” the report states. “Rain, freezing rain and snow are all possible with this system.”

Significant rainfall amounts are expected for areas north of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Freezing rain is expected to affect most areas east of Lake Huron and eastern Ontario. Significant ice build-up is possible.

Significant snowfall will affect areas east of Georgian Bay.

Travel is expected to be impacted.

The Ontario Storm Prediction Centre will be closely monitoring the situation, according the report, and warnings may  be issued as the event draws nearer.

Residents are advised to continue to monitor alerts and forecasts.
