As part of the vision for the continued development of Main Street and downtown Newmarket, the town is seeking proposals for the reuse of the Old Fire Hall property.

Just The Facts:

The Old Fire Hall is located at 140 Main St. Built in 1952, it was used as a fire hall for most of its lifespan, before it saw a variety of uses over the years.

A unique 5,000-square-foot property, the town says it has potential to enhance the vibrancy of Main Street and lead to more development north of Main Street toward Davis Drive.

The Old Fire Hall is within proximity to key cultural sites such as the Elman W. Campbell Museum, community facilities, shops and restaurants. The town finds that this site has potential both economically and culturally.

Proposals will be evaluated based on how they address the following goals and objectives: Provides a benefit or service to the community, improved activation on Main Street and cultural enhancement in the downtown; complements existing economic development and planning strategies of the town as well as Business Improvement Area initiatives and strategies; provides financial contributions through the lease (such as renovations) to accommodate the proposed commercial use as well as capital /lease contributions that will eliminate current town expenditures on the property.

Proposals will be accepted until Feb. 12 at newmarket.bidsandtenders.ca.
