During a special presentation in the Committee of the Whole Public Hearing, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council presented The Diana Award to Vaughan residents Carly Goldhar and Charley Rangel, who together, founded the Odd-Sox Project. The Diana Award was established in memory of the legacy of Diana, Princess of Wales. It is the most prestigious accolade a young person aged nine to 25 years can receive for their social action or humanitarian work. It is distributed internationally, and this year, only 14 recipients from all of Canada were named to receive the award. Both Carly Goldhar and Charley Rangel have received the 2019 award in recognition of their charitable initiative, the Odd-Sox Project. The project began in 2015 with the goal of collecting 5,000 pairs of gently-used socks to donate to shelters throughout the winter. To-date, they have collected and donated more than 90,000 pairs of socks to individuals in need around the world.
