Water levels remain high following weekend rainstorm

The Town of Newmarket want you to keep clear of the Holland River, Fairy Lake and storm ponds

Due to the significant amount of rainfall experienced this past weekend, the water levels at all bodies of water in Newmarket (Holland River, Fairy Lake, storm ponds etc.) remain high. Newmarket advises everyone to keep clear of these areas. The Town also strongly advises parents to communicate this important safety message to their children, and urge them to stay away from all watercourses.

Various parks and trails remain closed due to flooding and rising water levels. For the most up-to-date information around closures, visit newmarket.ca/news

Newmarket staff is continuously monitoring the water levels and clearing and cleaning areas around sewer grates and catch basins as required.

If you are experiencing flooding in your basement, do not use any toilets or sinks if possible. Doing so can cause more water to flow into your basement if flooding is due to a sewer-backup. Call your insurance company as soon as possible to report property damaged due to flooding. If required, your insurance company will contact the Town for further action.
