Tenth Line in Stouffville is going to be closed for a little longer than expected.

As a result of snowfall early in November the project has experienced some delays, according to a staff report. An extension of the closure for an additional 12-day period until Dec. 21 is required to complete the work.

The Tenth Line reconstruction, taking place from Mantle Avenue to the southern boundary of the town, includes removal of existing pavement, installation of local development water mains and sewers, street lighting, new road base and base course asphalt and construction of new lay-by parking.

The road closure extension is required to facilitate the installation of utilities, street lights and street light energization by Hydro One.

A staff report said the closure of the road will allow the project to be completed expeditiously. The priority is to have the Tenth Line water main and sewer extensions completed so that service can be provided to the future subdivision to the east.

Staff investigated the possibility of keeping the road partially open during construction but concluded it would not only extend the duration of the project, but also repeat the experience of the Ninth Line roundabout construction
