The Town of Newmarket is eyeing the regulation of short-term rentals and will hold a public meeting on Dec. 10 where you can have your say.

The potential new regulations will include short-term rental accommodations of an entire home or part of it for short-term stays, often for 30 days or less.

These types of rentals are popular and represent a growing trend in Newmarket and elsewhere. They are accessed through various sites such as Airbnb, VRBO, HomeAway and Booking.com, among others. 

You can learn about best practices at the public meeting, what’s working in other municipalities and how zoning impacts rental housing stock.

The town is part of a larger short-term rental working group that involves other municipalities in York Region, and after extensive research and consultation on best practices with other municipalities that currently regulate short-term rentals, the town will put together options on how to best regulate short-term rentals.

The public meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in council chambers at the Municipal Offices, 395 Mulock Dr.

A presentation on the subject begins at 7 p.m. and residents will be invited to provide their feedback.
