Whitchurch-Stouffville could be a thing of the past.
Town council will discuss the future town name at the council meeting Dec. 3. Council might decide to drop Whitchurch from the official name and shorten it to Town of Stouffville.
Town staff undertook a lengthy public survey that received 3,247 usable responses. The numbers were largely in favour of the name change.
According to the staff report, 74.5 per cent of respondents preferred changing the name while 21.7 per cent favoured keeping it as Whitchurch-Stouffville.
The report notes costs directly associated with a name change, and not associated with a rebranding, include: a new corporate seal, updating entrance signs and change of ownership fleet with a total estimated price tag of $24,500.
Council previously approved spending $50,000 for a branding initiative earlier this year, which would have been incurred regardless of whether or not there's a name change, the report said.
