Vaughan has been named as one of the official stops of the 2019-2020 Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour with the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre set to become hockey-central on Jan. 11 and 12, 2020. In celebration, a number of events have been scheduled including the official kick off event and flag raising at City Hall which took place on November 19th. Mayor Bevilacqua was joined by none other than Toronto Maple Leaf Alumni Nik Antropov as well as members of Council, local player association representatives like the Vaughan Rangers and area residents for the auspicious occasion. According to Mayor Bevilacqua, "We have a proud hockey tradition in Vaughan. In our city, it is more than just a sport; it is a unifying force and has become a distinct part of our city's culture.” The flag raising marked “the beginning of city-wide celebrations to rally our shared passion for the game. We are excited to see the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) transform into an ultimate hockey fan zone in January. It is the ideal place to host the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour. This is a unique opportunity to bring the community together and celebrate hockey. We look forward to welcoming hosts Ron MacLean and Tara Slone to the City of Vaughan." The busy event even saw our Mayor donning a jersey and picking up a stick for a little game play!
