Former East Gwillimbury councillor Jack Hauseman dies

He served five terms as a councillor starting in 1992.

A well-respected former town councillor in East Gwillimbury has died.

Jack Hauseman served five terms as a local councillor in the '90s and 2000s.

Mayor Virginia Hackson, members of council and staff from the Town of East Gwillimbury offered their sincerest condolences to the Hauseman family.

“Former councillor Hauseman served the town for many years. His dedication and great character will be remembered throughout the community," Hackson said. "Jack always had the best interest of the community at heart. I extend my condolences to Jack’s wife, Fran, and family at this difficult time." Mr. Hauseman was first elected to council in 1992 and served for five terms. Former councillor Hauseman had a passion for politics at both the provincial and municipal level. Having grown up in Toronto then moving to East Gwillimbury, Jack focused on building a strong community and was an active volunteer.

Hauseman received the Ontario Volunteer of the Year and was awarded the Ontario Bicentennial Medal of Honour by the provincial government.

Residents are invited to sign a book of condolences for the Hauseman family which will be made available until Dec. 16 at the Civic Centre.

Flags have been lowered to half-mast at the Civic Centre to honour Hauseman.
