WHAT’S GOING ON HERE?: Ninth Line intersection improvements in Markham
Minor electrical work continues but bulk of major construction rescheduled to next spring: York Region

Except for some minor electrical work, the majority of road improvements slated for Ninth Line have been bounced to next year due to “unforeseen delays,” according to the Region of York.
Originally on the docket for this fall, a transit spokesperson said the majority of construction for the area between Fincham Avenue and Tiers Gate/White’s Hill Avenue will be rescheduled to the spring when the weather is more conducive to the type of construction being planned.
Work includes:
- Intersection improvements at Fincham Avenue and at Tiers Gate/White’s Hill Avenue, with new left-turn lanes and accessible crosswalks;
- Repaving;
- Installing new curbs and catch basins on the east side of Ninth Line.
- While Ninth Line will remain open to traffic during construction, the closure of one northbound lane may occur between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday, depending on the nature of construction taking place.
