On Saturday, November 23, 2019 Santa will make a special appearance at the 47th Annual Markham Santa Claus Parade. Hosted by the City of Markham and the Rotary Clubs of Markham, the parade - featuring more than 80 floats - will travel along historic Main Street Markham. We invite all who are young and young-at-heart to celebrate this year’s theme, “Music Makes Christmas”.
“The Markham Santa Claus Parade has been going strong for 47 years and I can’t wait to join Santa and all his helpers during this joyful time,” says Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “This is a time to come together as a community and celebrate the many blessings we share. Main Street Markham will be abuzz with excitement, where we share fond memories and make new ones.”
In 2017, the City of Markham became the first municipality in the GTA to live stream the parade, making it accessible for everyone. Lloyd Roberston, Canadian news icon and Markham resident, will be hosting and providing live commentary on Twitter for the live stream this year. Follow and use #MarkhamSantaParade.
Jolly ol’ Saint Nick will follow the parade as it travels north along Main Street Markham from the intersection of Highway 7 East & Markham Road to the intersection of 16th Avenue & Markham Road. This year’s Grand Marshalls are our founding settlers William and Charlotte Berczy (played by Lorne and Carol Smith), who will be leading the many floats, marching bands and representatives from Markham's business and cultural communities.
Roads closures will begin at 8:00 AM. Limited parking is available in the area surrounding the parade route, however parking is not permitted on Main Street Markham--the reindeer need the space. Parade goers are encouraged to carpool or take transit.
Stores and restaurants will be open during and after the parade, so consider crossing a few things off your Christmas List later that afternoon.
Bring your festive spirit, dress for the weather, and join us for this magical family tradition!
