Good news, Bradford: There are fewer days in November and April when snowstorms clog up your roads.

More good news: You can park on roadsides for a little longer.

In January 2016, the town amended its traffic regulation bylaws to reduce restrictions on overnight winter parking.

That’s because precipitation patterns have changed over the years, with fewer significant snowfalls in the months of November and April, says community relations officer Caleigh Clubine.

The older restrictions (no road parking between 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. from Nov. 1 to May 1) have been replaced with new ones: No road parking Dec. 1 to April 1 during those hours.

As well, when signs are on display, no parking is permitted on Holland Street West to Drury Street, and Holland Street East to Nelson Avenue between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Residents are still asked to not park on roads when there is snow outside of the restriction period, if possible, to allow for thorough snow clearing.

Drivers would not be ticketed unless they were actually blocking a plow (i.e. if they parked so far from the curb that they were sticking out into the driving lane), Clubine said.

An extra hour of parking is now permitted in the four-corners area downtown to accommodate bars and restaurants that are open later.

The town has also made a number of overnight parking spots available at the BWG Leisure Centre, where signs indicate, so that people who have overnight guests can let them park there (and then presumably drive them back to their house), Clubine said.

Parking is also permitted in municipal “Green P” parking lots for up to 24 hours.

And in the spirit of the holiday season, the town lifted its winter parking ban on New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31 to Jan. 1).

While the bylaw has not yet been amended to lift restrictions on Christmas Eve, the town doesn't enforce the bylaw that night either, Clubine said
