The York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) is proud to announce a new Integrated Regional Arts Program (iRAP) at Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Newmarket, starting September 2020.
Students in this program will experience an enriched learning environment with a focus on creative engagement in the arts and beyond. The interdisciplinary approach merges comprehensive arts courses with core curriculum to facilitate life-long learning in the arts. This approach to arts-focused learning will be the first program of its kind at YCDSB.
“The Integrated Regional Arts Program will develop a student’s rich artistic talents while exploring connections to both their regular curriculum and the artistic community at large,” said Olga Ferro, Principal at Sacred Heart Catholic High School. “Students are encouraged to develop discipline, collaboration, self-expression, and enhanced communication skills.”
“The multidisciplinary approach of the Integrated Regional Arts Program will help prepare students for an increasingly global workforce, economy and community,” said Trustee Theresa McNicol. “Students will deepen their artistic competency while developing skills to help them succeed in post-secondary education and a career.”
The iRAP at Sacred Heart is open to students of all faiths from across York Region who are attending grades 9 and 10 in September 2020. The school is hosting an Information Night for parents and students:
