The first brick has been laid for East Gwillimbury’s $16.7 million operations centre on Woodbine Avenue.
“This project has been in the works for many years, and we are looking forward to having the current works yard relocated to this new facility which will provide the proper resources for our staff who maintain our infrastructure,” Mayor Virginia Hackson said. “In addition, the relocation of our works yard will allow important lands behind the sports complex to be used for recreational purposes which will better serve our community.”
The town’s current works yard will be moved to the new 58,000-square-foot operations centre situated on a 20-acre site on Woodbine Avenue north of Doane Road. This facility will support the town’s operational and front line service departments, and will include a salt dome, greenhouse, covered roads storage and will also be the home of the town’s new Emergency Operations Centre.
Construction began this summer and its estimated completion date is late in 2020.
Phase 1 of the work, which included earthworks, grading, storm water management and site servicing is now complete. Next steps include the construction of the exterior walls and doors followed by interior work over the winter months.
