Vaughan-based aerosol manufacturer fined $170K for environmental offences

A Concord aerosol manufacturing company has been fined $170,000 for two infractions under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.

K-G Spray-Pak Inc. failed to comply with an environmental protection compliance order issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada in July 2016, an Ontario Court of Justice ruled Tuesday.

In that instance, the company was charged with one count of violating the Environmental Emergency Regulations. The company was ordered to implement and test environmental emergency plans within the prescribed time limit.

The company was charged again in February 2017 after failing to comply with the 2016 order within the time frame prescribed.

The company is a manufacturer, marketer and distributor of aerosol products.

The total fine will be directed to Ottawa’s environmental damages fund.

As a result of the conviction, the company's name will be added to the Environmental Offenders Registry.

Environmental protection compliance orders are issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada's enforcement officers to put an immediate stop to a violation of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, to prevent a violation from occurring, or to require action be taken to address a violation.
