If you have library fines you feel a bit uneasy about, then there is a way out; donate food.

Vaughan Public Libraries says it’s pleased to announce that for each food item donated at one of its locations from Nov. 25 to Dec. 15, one’s library fine will be lowered by $1.

Collected items will be donated to the Vaughan Food Bank and Humanity First.

The most required items include dry and canned lentils and beans, canned soups, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, cooking oil, mayonnaise, salmon, sardines, toiletries, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Items not accepted include food past its best before dates, bulk food, fresh food, junk food, homemade food, damaged items and opened packages.
