The holiday season is back, and that means the York Regional Police is running their 2019 Holiday Heroes campaign to help families in need during the holidays.

YRP is encouraging all York Region residents to support this year’s campaign, which will run from Nov. 12 to Dec. 13.

100 per cent of the donations directly support families from our community who are in need.

The police’s collaborative efforts with their generous corporate partners will provide holiday cheer to the thousands of families who have registered for assistance through local Salvation Army programs and Victim Services of York Region.

Members of the public can participate by dropping off new unwrapped toys, new children’s clothing, gift cars, Canadian Tire money or monetary donations at any police facility:

Police will also be out and about in the community throughout the campaign accepting donations. Dates and locations can be found on the events calendar at www.yrp.ca.

Online donations are also being accepted and can be made at www.yrp.ca/donate. Financial donations will go toward helping those who are in need to buy groceries and other items that are desperately needed, but are not commonly donated during the drive -- such as winter clothing, diapers and formula.

The official launch of the 2019 Holiday Heroes campaign will be held Sunday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Official remarks will take place at 2:15 p.m., with a soccer game between police and coaches taking place at 2:30 p.m.

Since the launch of the Holiday Heroes in 2008, police have raised more than $1.5 million in monetary donations, new toys, new children’s clothing and food. As always, all donations raised in York Region stay in York Region.
