The replica lighthouse celebrates the spirit of the local harbour as a destination on Lake Simcoe.
Just the facts:
- In 2018, town staff were directed to work with Daryl Urquhart to design and construct a lighthouse at Jackson’s Point Harbour replacing the existing light beacon.
- Construction started in October 2019 and is expected to be complete by end of 2019;
- Construction will be done on site, which includes a concrete foundation and a galvanized steel frame;
- The solar-powered LED amber beacon will be about nine metres above the water level and will be visible up to about five nautical miles. As well as being programmable with direction controls, the replica lighthouse will also have 180-degree blackout panels facing the shoreline to reduce light pollution to residents;
- Estimated cost for the replica lighthouse is $160,000, including insurance stipulations
- The town will assume full ownership and management of the lighthouse replica structure once completed.
