Sporting bright green shirts the many volunteers and participants taking part in a recent fundraiser were hard to miss! The event was a 5km leisure walk suitable for families and even their pets, all helping to raise awareness of Lyme Disease. Starting the trek at Vaughan City Hall, attendees spent a morning trekking in the cool but mostly cooperative crisp fall weather. All net proceeds from the event were benefitting the G. Magnotta Foundation for Vector-Borne Diseases and to directly assist Canada's first translational Lyme Disease Research Lab at the University of Guelph. The lab will host over 100 faculty members who will do novel research including understanding how Lyme bacteria behaves as it enters the human body with an aim to improving testing, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
