Newmarket residents are being invited to play the Town of Newmarket’s 2020 Budget Game online at newmarket.ca, which was developed to help the town gather feedback from taxpayers about how they want to see their tax dollars spent.

Those who take the time to play have the chance to win a $100 credit that can be used toward a recreation and culture program.

“Resident engagement and participation are crucial when building our budgets for each given year,” Mayor John Taylor said. “It is council’s goal, and strategic priority, to ensure that we are able to continue to provide long-term financial sustainability, while continuing to balance and deliver great services and low tax rates.”

Next year’s budget will focus on supporting the six priorities including long-term financial sustainability, extraordinary places and spaces, safe transportation, economic leadership and job creation, vibrancy on Yonge Street, and Davis and Mulock drives, as well as environmental stewardship.

Participants will be asked to rank each municipal service in order of importance by assigning a number from one to eight. Services with the highest rankings will help council formulate the budget and identify community priorities.

Residents can also provide feedback by adding comments in the HeyNewmarket.ca forum, attending a budget meeting, emailing finance@newmarket.ca or by calling 905-895-5193.
