For the first time in Dawn Matthew’s career with Animal Control, she will be issuing documentation asking a cat owner to secure all vents at home.

The owner’s cat, Maxine, is mischievous after all and has a tendency to pull up the floor vents!

On Oct. 24, a resident on Ohr Menachem Way contacted the city’s animal control and Vaughan Fire & Rescue Service to get Maxine out since she was stuck in the HVAC system for approximately two days.

The vent entry point was a 90 degree angle and it was unclear where the duct system went under the hardwood flooring of the second floor. With the permission of the homeowner, firefighters removed ceiling drywall and insulation in the garage to get to the vent pipe.

The next morning Maxine was sent for a general wellness exam with the veterinarian.

The fire department said the feline suffered from some dehydration and anxiety.
