Mount Albert is in line for some serious upgrades.
York-Simcoe MPP and Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney announced at East Gwillimbury council Oct. 1 the provincial government will give $2.2 million in funding to revitalize Centre Street.
“I am proud and excited to announce that the Ontario government is investing close to $2.2 million in infrastructure funding for the Mount Albert Centre Street revitalization project,” she said. “As your local representative, I understand the importance of having access to safe roads and bridges in our community. This initiative promises to make a real difference in residents' lives and confidence in knowing that our community has safe and reliable infrastructure.”
Mayor Virginia Hackson expressed her thanks to the provincial government for its continued partnership. “These funds will support our Mount Albert Centre Street improvements and assist with the continued revitalization of this downtown core.”
Work on the project will include improvements to pedestrian connectivity through enhanced sidewalk linkages, bridge repairs, the addition of new lay-by parking spots, realignment of hydro poles, enhanced streetscaping, and resurfacing and reconstruction of the road.
Staff will be conducting public consultation to finalize the design concepts for the work.
Town staff are investigating options for infrastructure and pedestrian improvements in each of the three wards.
