Ontario Celebrates the Outstanding Contributions of Volunteers
Ontario Volunteer Service Awards being presented across the province

Ontario's government is recognizing the outstanding contributions of more than 7,100 volunteers across the province through the Volunteer Service Awards.
"Volunteers are a vital part of our social fabric. Their efforts shape our communities across the province and our country. Our government is honoured to recognize the efforts of these great citizens and neighbours," said Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, who attended a local ceremony today at the Nepean Sportsplex. "Volunteers give so much of themselves through their dedication and kindness. Their acts, both large and small, are sometimes thankless, or go unacknowledged. It's important we do take time to see what volunteers give to our communities day in and day out, like providing comfort to the sick, companionship to the elderly, and coaching and mentoring youth. They make Ontario a place we are proud to call home, and that's why we recognize them every year at ceremonies like these."
The Ontario Volunteer Service Awards recognize individuals for continuous years of volunteer service at organizations such as hospitals, seniors' centres and community associations. From September to November 2019, nominated volunteers will receive their awards at local ceremonies held across the province. Volunteers contribute to a wide range of services in Ontario, including supporting seniors and adults through Meals on Wheels, building up communities through local Lions Clubs, and much more.
"By selflessly helping others, volunteers across Ontario are an inspiration for us all," said MacLeod. "As we celebrate the achievements and service of our award recipients from across the province, I encourage all Ontarians to look to them as an example and think about how they can step up, and give some of their time to strengthen our great communities, and our great province."

- Since 1986, more than 250,000 volunteers have been recognized through the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards.
- Adults are recognized by the length of time they've volunteered with one organization, ranging from five to 65+ years of continuous service.
