Nokiidaa Trail users might need to find an alternate route over the next few months.
The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Area is removing trees affected by the emerald ash borer beetle that are in danger of falling on the trail.
The work requires a partial and temporary closure on the Nokiidaa Trail that goes through Rogers Reservoir in October and November.
The trail portion running between 2nd Concession Road and Green Lane East was to be closed starting Monday, Oct. 7, for about six weeks.
To limit the inconvenience to trail users: The closure will be in effect from Monday to Friday only. The closure will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. only. The trail will be fully open on weekends, and open all day on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 14.
All trees removed will be replaced, with double to triple the number of total trees removed. Most of the replacement seedlings will be planted in the spring with some being planted this fall. The replacement trees will be a selection of native species that are suited to the site and will increase biodiversity.
