The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is celebrated every year by Asian communities in Vaughan and around the world. This tradition dates back to ancient China and celebrates the coming together of family and friends to enjoy the moonlight and give thanks to the year’s harvest. To honour this important custom, the City of Vaughan held the second Mayor’s Lunar Gala on Friday, Sept. 20, at Riviera Parque.
“As one of the most cherished and meaningful traditions in Asian culture, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a tradition that brings families and friends together to give thanks for life’s many blessings. At this year’s Mayor’s Lunar Gala, we proudly recognized the important social, cultural and economic contributions of Vaughan’s growing Asian community, while recommitting our collective support for the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Through our combined efforts, we are making a significant investment into Vaughan’s bright and promising future. I want to express my gratitude to the Mayor’s Lunar Gala co-chairs, Irwin Li, Justin Poy and Andy Chan, as well as Councillor Sandra Yeung Racco, for their hard work and dedication to bringing this event to life. I extend my best wishes to all for another year of health, happiness and prosperity.”
